The SAT is offered eight times per year by the College Board on the weekend. Plus, some schools provide a test on a school-day through the College Board called SAT School Day.

Students are able to register for any of the test dates on their own, regardless of what they are told by their guidance counselors.

Deadlines for Cancelling or Making Changes to Your SAT Registration

Students who are registered to take an SAT can make changes up to 11 days before their SAT date.

How to Register for the SAT

Students can register through the College Board website. Students will be required to provide personal information, academic information, a headshot, and make a payment to register for the SAT. It is advised to register early, so students can have a better chance of getting into their preferred test location before spots fill up.

Preparing to Take the SAT

Most students take the SAT for the first time in spring of junior year (11th grade). However, students can take the test earlier if they like.  It is best for students to take the test when their schedule permits them time to study and prepare for the test.

In general, to prepare for the SAT, students should start with a diagnostic test and assess their strengths and weaknesses. Based on their starting score and their target score, they need to come up with a plan. At this point, it is best to get some outside help in the form of a class, a tutor, or SAT prep books.
