You can excel with Caddell!

Students can register for it eight times each year through the College Board website, plus another date if it is offered in their school as a School-Day SAT. Students can register to take the SAT on the College Board website for tests during the months of August, September, October, November, December, March, May and June.

Students can register for the SAT on their own at the College Board Website. Below are the necessary steps.

  1. To register for the SAT, students need to visit https://mysat.collegeboard.org/login and create a new account or log into an existing account. If you don’t remember your password, its okay. You can request for a verification code to be sent to your email and log in using the code.
  2. After you log in, click the button that says “Register for the SAT”.
  3. It will guide you through the process of entering your information. It will ask for your name, gender, date of birth, name of your high school, your expected graduation date, and your grade.
  4. Then it will ask more specific information such as your race, your parents’ education, parents’ military service, and spoken languages. You can choose to not respond to any of those.
  5. Next will be questions about your academics. These will include question about AP courses, GPA, and rank. Then questions about math courses you have taken and during which grades. Then the same for English courses science courses, social studies courses, and languages. You’ll next be asked about high school activities, such as honor society, athletics, career–oriented activity, community service, etc. Lastly, you’ll be asked to answer questions about your educational goals such as highest level of education you plan to complete, college majors, college type, etc.
  6. The next step is to read and accept the weekend testing rules.
  7. Confirm your test details such as country, test (SAT), test date, and test center.
  8. You’ll be asked to confirm the date and location. After you press “continue”, you’ll have 20 minutes to complete the transaction. That includes uploaded your photo and paying for the test. Make sure you have everything ready before pressing “continue”.
  9. You’ll be asked to upload or confirm an existing photo (if you’ve previously uploaded one).
  10. Select which device you plan to bring on test day. The options are
    • Windows (laptop or tablet)
    • Mac laptop
    • iPad
    • School-managed Chromebook
    • I will be testing with an accommodation that doesn’t require a device
    • I haven’t decided but I have access to a device
    • I don’t know if I have access to the necessary device
      • Note: If you’re registering to take the test digitally within the next 30 days, you may not be able to request a device. If you need a device, please select a later test date.
  11. Confirm all of the order information is correct.
  12. May the payment.

Registration Fees and Waivers

As of 2025, the SAT registration fee is $68, but this can change each year. There may be extra charges for things like changing the test date or location, or for sending more score reports.

Some students can get a fee waiver. This lets them take the SAT for free if they meet certain requirements, like being part of a low-income family or qualifying for free or reduced lunch at school.

Fee waivers also cover up to two SAT sittings and some other benefits, such as free score reports to colleges. Students can talk to their school counselor to learn if they qualify and how to get a waiver. Always check the latest fees and waiver rules on the official College Board website.

SAT Accommodations

Accommodations are available for the SAT. Accomodations include extended time (time-and-a-half or double-time), extra breaks, translation assistance, and more. To get approval for accommodations, it is best to work through your school and start early. The school’s Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD) coordinator knows the submission deadlines and can access College Board’s SSD Online.

There are additional SAT Accomodations available and other ways to apply for it.

SAT Dates Deadlines for Registering

The SAT is offered on weekends eight times per year during August, September, October, November, December, March, May and June. The registration deadline is 15 days before the test date. There are other SAT test deadlines for for different circumstances as well. We created a table that shows all of the SAT test dates and deadlines for you.

SAT Test Day Essentials

SAT test day involves being prepared with what is needed, understanding the center’s rules, and knowing what happens during the process. Planning ahead helps students stay calm and avoid problems at the test center.

What to Bring

Bringing the required items to the test center is important. Every student must have their admission ticket (printed or digital, as required) and a valid photo ID, such as a driver’s license or school ID. These are checked at the door.

A fully charged device with the Bluebook app installed is needed for the digital SAT. Don’t forget the power cord or charger for the laptop or tablet. Test centers offer limited outlets, so having extra battery life is a good idea.

Approved calculators are allowed for the math modules. Students may also want to bring extra pencils, even though these are less used on the digital test. Snacks and drinks can be taken for breaks and should be kept in a clear bag.
