The State University of New York at Farmingdale—also referred to as SUNY Farmingdale or Farmingdale State College— is a public technology college in East Farmingdale, New York. It was founded in 1912 as a school of applied agriculture under the name of New York State School of Agriculture on Long Island.
Farmingdale takes pride in both of its educational value and campus safety. Initially one of the schools of agriculture in the state, Farmingdale has developed into a multi-disciplinary institution that offers different fields of study.

The school is located in 350 NY-110, Farmingdale, New York. Most of the majors in the college are centered on technology. In fact, the campus buildings have several smart classrooms to help students develop any hands-on skills they will need once they venture out into the working world.
Farmingdale State College is also known for its long history of being environmentally-conscious. The school houses the Solar Energy Center, a fleet of battery-powered cars, and has extensive green research efforts.
Academics
Farmingdale State College has 14 career certificate programs, nine associate’s degrees and 28 bachelor’s degrees offered through four different colleges that include the School of Business, School of Arts & Sciences, School of Health Sciences and the School of Engineering Technology. These colleges offer quality, hands-on learning in many of the in-demand careers in the modern global workplace.
The school offers multiple unique programs as well, such as those from the Green Building Institute (GBI). This organization offers aid and design for Long Island buildings that substantially reduce or eliminate the effect that structures have on the environment.
The GBI has many plans for Long Island, including development and research in the green building industry, helping local businesses and the government make the most out of green buildings, and making the area a central employment hub. It also aims to educate and improve the quality of living for the community through green technology.
Some of the specific areas of focus for the GBI include green walls and roofs, energy management, electrical engineering, alternative construction, energy, building design, and stormwater management. The Institute is also in charge of testing material that claims to be low-emitting when it comes to industrial hygiene and air quality.
Additionally, Farmingdale has its own flight school that offers a bachelor’s degree in aeronautical science. The campus also awards a professional pilot’s license.
Student Life
Farmingdale has an active student life that offers numerous clubs and organizations for students to take part in. There are civic organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, as well as student groups that cover a diverse range of interests and hobbies.
On the athletic front, the Farmingdale State Rams are part of the NCAA Division III Skyline Conference. Although the college is made up of a large commuter population, approximately 600 residential students commute to and from the school.
Athletics
The Farmingdale State College athletic department offers an NCAA Division III intercollegiate sports program that takes part in Skyline, ECAC and CTC conferences. There are several sports being offered to students including men’s and women’s basketball, cross country, indoor track, outdoor track, lacrosse, soccer, and tennis. Men have the option to play baseball and golf while women have the additional option of softball and volleyball. The official colors of the Rams are green and white.
Aside from intercollegiate sports, the school offers students club sports including ice hockey and intramurals like ultimate frisbee, ping pong, dodgeball, basketball, and soccer. Students may participate in various events throughout the year such as a free-throw contest and a student and staff softball game.
