SHSAT Tutoring:
Online &
In-Person
1-on-1 SHSAT Tutoring allows for flexibility when it comes to the student’s pace, needs and schedule. With 1-on-1 tutoring we are able to move through content according to the students ability, speeding up or slowing down as needed. Plus, some students feel more comfortable preparing for the SHSAT with a tutor rather that in a class. SHSAT Tutoring is also a good option for students with very busy schedules that might not align well with a review class.

SHSAT Tutoring Overview
- Help in Real-Time: Students will have the full attention of the tutor. All of our tutoring is scheduled as real one-on-one tutoring. Our tutors actively help your child when they need help and don’t always wait for your child to ask for help.
- Diagnostic Test & Follow-up Tests: Students will be asked to a Diagnostic SHSAT, which helps identify strenghts and weaknesses and gives us a baseline score to compare future practice tests to. We offer students additional tests to track their progress and identify strengths and weaknesses, so we can modify tutoring strategies as needed.
- Homework: The SHSAT is a pretty difficult test. To do well on it, most students have to work hard: studying and practicing. The practice has to happen outside of the classroom also. After each session, your child will be given homework related to the day’s lesson, so your student can practice what was covered and retain it. It’s is incredibly important for students to practice while they aren’t in class.

Lessons, Practice Problems, and Sample Tests
We have lessons for each part of the test, including Revising & Editing, Reading Comprehenion, and Mathematics. Our lessons are designed specifically for the SHSAT. Each lesson includes practice problems directly related to the day’s lesson, which allows students to immediately test their comprehension on the lesson and address any areas that need help. The associated homework is more practice of the day’s lesson to help retain the information and some practice of previous material, so it isn’t forgotten.
Our tutoring is real 1-on-1 tutoring: one tutor working with one student. During sessions, the student has the full attention of the tutor. All of our SHSAT tutors are graduates of one of the NYC Specialized High Schools.

Why is SHSAT Tutoring Better Than Joining a Class?
SHSAT tutoring is a better option than joining a class if a student needs specific help with topics or if the student learns better with 1-on-1 interaction. While tutoring is more expensive than an SHSAT course, tutoring could have a higher return on the investment if it helps the student achieve a higher score.
SHSAT tutoring is also better than SHSAT Prep Courses if the student has a busy schedule and can’t commit to the times the classes are offered.
When is SHSAT Tutoring Better Than Tutoring for a Specific Topic, Such as Math or English?
Most students will need help on both math and English, so choosing to sign up for tutoring for the entire SHSAT is better. Even if students feel competent in both sections of the test, a diagnostic test will help identify which topics need to be covered. For the majority of students the entire test should be covered. However, there is flexibility to cover the specific topics that student needs. Additional practice SHSATs will be given to the student throughout the tutoring schedule to ensure the right topics are covered.
Should a Student Sign up for Just SHSAT Math Tutoring?
Students can choose to focus on math only if they are only concerned with raising their SHSAT math scores. When a student signs up for tutoring, the sessions can be used for any of the sections. Tutoring for SHSAT math is available at anytime during the scheduled sessions.
Should a Student Sign up for Only SHSAT English Tutoring?
If a student is satisfied with his math score based on a previous SHSAT test or a diagnostic test, he can choose to just focus on reading and writing. A parent might opt for only SHSAT English tutoring if they are only concerned with raising the reading and writing score. However, it is advised for students to continue practicing English questions, so the score remains strong.
