Below is our suggested order of lessons for SHSAT prep. We highly recommend taking the SHSAT Diagnostic Test before doing any of the lessons. Simply taking the test will help you better understand the content and tips presented in the lessons.

We will track your progress, which will be available to you under “My Assessment”. Your assessment will constantly be updated based on practice tests and sample problems that you complete. Don’t focus too much on the assessment until after you take the diagnostic test and go through all of the lessons up to and including Practice Test 01. However, if you have a limited amount of time to prepare, use the assessment to prepare after taking the diagnostic test.

## FAQs About the SHSAT

**What sections are on the SHSAT?**

English Language Arts and Mathematics. Note that the English Language Arts part consists of Revising/Editing and Reading Comprehension.

**Can I use a calculator on the SHSAT?**

No, a calculator is not permitted on the SHSAT.

**When should I start preparing for the SHSAT?**

For the SHSAT, it is best to start as early as possible. The SHSAT is a very difficult test and each student only has one chance to take it during 8th grade. There is another chance to take it as a freshman in high school, but there are less seats available in the specialized high school.

**Are formulas given on the SHSAT?**

No, formulas are not provided.

**What score is necessary to get into a specialized high school?**

Students are competing for available seats, so the score changes year to year. After the tests are graded, the students are ranked and placed into schools based on their rank and preferences for schools. On average, we have found that around an 85 is necessary to gain access to a specialized high school. However, because of the way the SHSAT is scored, a simple percentage is not accurate.
